India’s Top Women in Finance 2020
The 2nd edition of India’s Top “Women in Finance” is coming up in 2020. This campaign is designed to identify the most successful and respected women professionals working in the areas of finance, financial services, financial education & financial journalism.
Although the Indian financial services sector has made great strides toward a gender-balanced workforce in the last decade or so, there is still a long way to go. This campaign aims to encourage outstanding women leadership in the industry and groom future leaders.
Women professionals who will feature in this list will be talented, resilient, ethical, strong, and will have grit. They will be the ones who are inspiring their professional network to learn and grow. They are the ones who have faced professional and personal challenges and have come out victorious with a stronger sense of purpose and drive. The relentless pursuit of excellence will be common trait amongst all of them.
AIWMI will be shortlisting professionals in each of these categories:
Guiding: Women professionals who are playing an active role on various Boards, Committees, Think-tanks & Policy Groups.
Leading: Women professionals working in finance/ financial institutions in a CXO role.
Progressing: Women professionals working in financial institutions who are above the age of 30 and not currently in the CXO role.
Promising: Women professionals working in finance / financial institutions who are under the age of 30.
& last but not the least
Supporting: This special category is for Men in CXO role who are making a significant contribution to gender diversity and to the rise of women to senior business roles.
Selection method: Nominations will be sought from the industry professionals (both men and women).
We are looking for the best and brightest of Women Professionals in the Indian Financial Services. If you know someone who is well-rounded and contributes to his/her industry and community, we would like you to introduce him/her to us.
The nominees will be considered on the following criteria:
- Accomplishment (Success in profession)
- Contribution (Promotion of the profession, thought-leadership, pro-bono work, etc.)
- Leadership (Within a company, industry, etc.)
- Promise (Passion, Enthusiasm, Ideas, etc.)
A person can also nominate himself/herself. The nominee will receive a questionnaire once the nomination period closes.
All honorees will be recognized through a special report to be unveiled during the 3rd annual “Women in Finance” Leadership Summit in Mumbai on April 9th, 2020
Nomination Fee: Rs. 2950 (inclusive of GST)
Selection method: Winners will be chosen by an illustrious Jury. Nominees will be evaluated based on professional accomplishments, contribution, leadership, qualification and other exemplary qualities.
All the honorees will be recognized during the 3rd Women in Finance Leadership Summit 2020 scheduled on April 9th, 2020.

Founder, Avaana Capital
Anjali Bansal is the Founder and Managing Partner of Avaana Growth Capital, an investment platform that invests in and provides business building support for the scaling up of high growth companies. She was previously global Partner and Managing Director with TPG Growth PE, Spencer Stuart India CEO, and strategy consultant with McKinsey and Co in New York and India. She has also been an active angel investor in India with investments in various early and growth stage consumer companies.
She serves as an Independent Director on the boards of GSK, Bata India, Tata Power, Voltas and Delhivery and on the Advisory Board of Columbia University South Asia. She has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Gujarat University and a master’s in International Finance and Business from Columbia University.
Board Member, Axis Bank
Usha Sangwan, was the first ever woman Managing Director of LIC. Usha is a PG in Economics, PG Diploma holder in Human Resource Management and Licentiate from Insurance Institute of India. She joined LIC as Direct Recruit Officer in 1981. She at present is the Board Member of Axis Bank, Grasim Industries Ltd., and Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd.
She had started Direct Marketing Channel in LIC alongwith online sale of policies. She also brought LIC into Social Media. She institutionalized many Corporate Communication activities like LIC Student of the Year, Mobile Van, College Campus and Rozgar Melas. Usha has received innumerable awards and recognition including Forbes List of 50 most powerful Business Women in Asia; “Most Powerful Women in Indian Business” by Business Today and “Most Influential Women” in Businessworld.
R M Vishakha
CEO, India Life Insurance
RM Vishakha, recognized for her result-oriented leadership approach towards challenging assignments including start-ups, restructuring and reorganization, was previously associated with IndiaFirst Life as the Chief Business Officer. Vishakha has had a diverse career spanning over two decades with special focus on Bancassurance. Prior to IndiaFirst Life, she was with Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Company Limited as the Director of Sales and Marketing.
Vishakha has received innumerable awards and recognition including the Individual Achievement Award from ASSOCHAM CA Business Leader – Woman Award from ICAI. She was also on the prestigious Forbes India W-Power Trailblazer list 2018. Vishakha is a commerce graduate and a Chartered Accountant. She is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Systems.
MD, Kotak Mahindra AMC
Mr. Nilesh Shah is the Managing Director (MD) of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Co Ltd. He has over 25 years of experience in capital markets and market related investments, having managed funds across equity, fixed income securities and real estate for local and global investors. In his previous assignments, Nilesh has held leadership roles with Axis Capital, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Franklin Templeton and ICICI securities. Nilesh is the recipient of the inaugural Business Standard Fund Manager of the year award – Debt in 2004. He was part of the team that received the best fund house of the year award at Franklin Templeton as well as at ICICI Prudential. Nilesh is a gold medalist chartered accountant and a merit ranking cost accountant. His hobbies include reading and educating investors on financial planning. He has co-authored book on Financial Planning called “A Direct Take”.
Managing Director & CEO- Tata Capital
Mr. Rajiv Sabharwal, a B. Tech from IIT Delhi and PGDM from IIM Lucknow, has over 26 years of
experience in the banking and financial services industry. Mr. Sabharwal is currently the
Managing Director & CEO of Tata Capital Limited. He is also the Chairman of Tata Capital
Financial Services Limited, Tata Capital Housing Finance Limited, Tata Securities Limited and Tata
Asset Management Limited and is also on the Board of Tata Capital Cleantech Limited, Tata
Capital Pte Ltd. and Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited.
He has served as an Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank where he was responsible for
several businesses including retail banking, business banking, rural banking, financial inclusion,
technology and digital banking. He has also served as the Chairman of ICICI Home Finance
Company Limited and was on the Board of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited. He
was also on the Investment Advisory Committee (Real Estate) of ICICI Prudential AMC.
Mr. Sabharwal has been acknowledged for his contribution to the growth of the Retail Banking
and Real Estate & Housing Finance market in India.
Mr. Sabharwal also has had experience in both Venture Capital and Growth Capital investing at
Sequoia Capital and True North. He has been on the Board of a number of early stage and
growing companies in Financial services space.
He has also served on a number of committees of RBI and IBA.
Mr. Sabharwal has had successful stints with True North Managers LLP, Sequoia Capital, Godrej
Group, SRF Finance, GE Capital and Times Bank.
Founder, Indian Angel Network
Padmaja is a Co-founder & President of Indian Angel Network (IAN). She has been awarded as one of the ‘Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business’ by Fortune India for 2017 & 2018, listed in Forbes India’s W- Power Trailblazers and “30 Most Powerful Women in India” by Business Today.
Padmaja has been nominated as Co-Chair of Global Business Angel Network (GBAN). She is a member of the National Expert Advisory Committee on Innovation, Incubation and Technology Entrepreneurship.
She also established a unique model of an incubator, in partnership with the Indian Government. She is a member of the Governing Council of EM3 Services. A graduate with English Honours, Padmaja has completed her MBA as well as Chartered Accountancy (Intermediate) with her internship with S.R. Batliboi (an E&Y group company).
Director, Symbiosis School of Banking & Finance
Dr. Manisha Ketkar, Director Symbiosis School of Banking & Finance is a Commerce graduate and a Fellow Cost Accountant (FCMA). She has also done her Master’s in Business Studies (MBS) from the University of Pune.
She has done her PhD in ‘Study of supply risk management practices’ with Symbiosis International (Deemed University) under the guidance of Dr. O. S. Vaidya from IIM Lucknow. Dr. Ketkar has presented papers in International Conferences and also has some published papers to her credit.
Dr. Ketkar has 28 years of experience. She has handled the operations of a business unit of a pharmaceutical multinational for over 16 years before her passion for teaching made her join Symbiosis in 2006. Her areas of expertise are Cost & Management Accounting and Supply Chain Management.
Dr. Ketkar is acknowledged for her interactive teaching approach. Along with academics, she is also known for her innovative approach to improvements, from student related matters to process reengineering.
Consulting Editor, Mint
A well-known media personality, Monika Halan’s goal is a fair marketplace for all participants in India’s retail financial sector. She is Consulting Editor with Mint, India’s second largest business daily. A Certified Financial Planner, she has a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a second Masters in Journalism Studies from College of Cardiff, University of Wales, UK. She has worked earlier across media organisations in India including Editing Outlook Money. She has run four successful TV series around personal finance advice in NDTV, Zee and Bloomberg India and is a regular speaker on financial literacy, regulation, inclusion and consumer issues in retail finance. She has public policy experience working with the Government of India as an advisor to the Swarup Committee in 2009. She has served as a member on the Ministry of Finance Committee on Incentives (Bose Committee), has been a member on the Sebi Mutual Fund Committee since 2010 and is a member on the Proxy Advisor Working Group constituted by Sebi in November 2018.
She was a member of the Task Force set up by the Government of India to put in place the Financial Redressal Agency. She was an expert invitee to a Ministry of Commerce Committee on the Service Price Index. Radhika is a graduate of Management and Technology Program from the University of Pennsylvania (USA); with joint degrees in Economics from the Wharton School & Computer Science Engineering from the Moore School. Radhika started her career with McKinsey & Company, and then progressed to become a hedge fund manager with AQR Capital – One of the world’s largest Systematic Asset Managers. She then moved to India to start her own venture named – Forefront Capital Management, an alternative asset management firm, which was acquired by Edelweiss in 2014.
She is the founding President of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Club, a member of the Global Leadership Council of the Management and Technology Program and a Board Member of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
