2nd annual “Women in Finance” Leadership Summit India 2019

AIWMI’s 2nd annual “Women in Finance” Leadership Summit India (WIF2019) will provide an opportunity for knowledge-sharing and to develop actions to further drive sustainable change in the Indian Financial Services. WIF2019 will celebrate the doers and doing, connect women professionals and empower the Indian financial services as a whole. Featuring keynote conversations, executive and gen-nex panel discussions and fireside chats, WIF2019 will bring together the voices and insights of a diverse range of female luminaries. AIWMI’s inaugural Women in Finance Leadership Summit India organized in November 2017 had brought together an impressive group of more than 100 women leaders from the Indian financial services sector for a day of high-level discussion and non-stop networking. The inaugural Summit focused on the far-reaching and ongoing transformational process of the financial sector. This included the macroeconomic environment and regulatory frameworks that are changing quickly and profoundly in light of the changing gender balance dynamics. This Summit had a fair bit of success in promoting effective corporate strategies for creating gender diversity at all levels of leadership. A well-known media personality, Monika Halan’s goal is a fair marketplace for all participants in India’s retail financial sector. She is Consulting Editor with Mint, India’s second largest business daily. A Certified Financial Planner, she has a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a second Masters in Journalism Studies from College of Cardiff, University of Wales, UK. She has worked earlier across media organisations in India including Editing Outlook Money. She has run four successful TV series around personal finance advice in NDTV, Zee and Bloomberg India and is a regular speaker on financial literacy, regulation, inclusion and consumer issues in retail finance. She has public policy experience working with the Government of India as an advisor to the Swarup Committee in 2009. She has served as a member on the Ministry of Finance Committee on Incentives (Bose Committee), has been a member on the Sebi Mutual Fund Committee since 2010 and is a member on the Proxy Advisor Working Group constituted by Sebi in November 2018. She was a member of the Task Force set up by the Government of India to put in place the Financial Redressal Agency. She was an expert invitee to a Ministry of Commerce Committee on the Service Price Index. She is the author of two published academic papers:  (http://bit.ly/2towQ53) in Journal of Economic Policy Reform that estimates the loss to investors on mis-sold insurance policies, and a paper that maps mis-selling by banks in India (http://bit.ly/2uBtw5Y) in the Journal for Comparative Economics. She is an author of the best-selling book Let’s talk Money published by Harper Collins in 2018. Her first book Seven Steps to Financial Freedom was published by Macmillan in 2005. She is based in New Delhi and was chosen as a Yale World Fellow in 2011.

With more than 15 years of experience in Financial Services across Wealth Management and Private Banking, Ms. Arpita Vinay has been part of the core  team that set up Centrum Wealth Management. As a Whole Time Director on the company’s board, she has helped to steer the firm from the venture to growth stage in the very competitive wealth management space. She heads Centrum’s Family Office that provides a comprehensive one-stop solution for wealthy families. The proposition encompasses investment management, wealth planning, administration and structuring, tax and legal advisory, corporate solutions, philanthropy and CSR opportunities. She also runs the structured and alternate products business line, an area where the firm has established solid credentials and where the business has grown manifold in the firm’s short existence.
She also looks after the offshore wealth product proposition along where she is leading the firm’s initiative to set up business in Singapore and Dubai. Prior to Centrum, she was the Head of Premier Banking at HSBC and was responsible for managing one of the largest affluent banking propositions in the country. She left HSBC to be part of the founder team of Centrum Wealth Management Limited. An Electrical Engineer and MBA, Finance, from Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi, she also holds STEP Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Private Wealth Advising which focuses on cross boarder succession, international taxation and family business advising .
She takes active interest in estate and succession planning and is a member of the Indian chapter of STEP, an international body of trust and estate planning professionals and the International Tax Planning Associates (ITPA). Ms. Arpita Vinay is a regular and sought-after speaker in wealth management, family office and alternative product forums and seminars

Anjali Bansal is the non-executive Chairperson of Dena Bank. She is also the founder of Avaana Capital, a fund platform that invests in and supports exceptional entrepreneurs in their scaling up journey. She was previously global Partner and Managing Director with TPG Growth PE, Spencer Stuart India CEO, and strategy consultant with McKinsey and Co in New York and India. She started her career as an engineer.

She serves as an independent non-executive director on the public boards of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals India, Bata India Limited, Tata Power, Voltas, and is on the Advisory Board of the Columbia University Global Centre’s, South Asia. Previously, she chaired the India board of Women’s World Banking, a leading global livelihood-promoting institution and continues to be an advisor to SEWA.

She heads NITI Aayog Women Entrepreneurship Platform Investment Council, serves on the managing committee of the Indian Venture Capital Association, and is a mentor to Facebook SheLeadsTech.

An active contributor to the dialogue on corporate governance and diversity, Anjali co-founded and chaired the FICCI Centre for Corporate Governance program for Women on Corporate Boards. She serves on the managing committee of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.

She has been listed as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Indian Business” by India’s leading publication, Business Today, and as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Business” by Fortune India. She is a frequent speaker at forums such as HBS India Conference, Columbia University, Stanford GSB, Facebook, LinkedIn, VC Circle, IVCA Conclave, Women Corporate Directors, and others.

She has a Bachelors in Computer Engineering from Gujarat University and a Masters in International Finance and Business from Columbia University.

Shrija Agrawal is the Associate Editor and part of the leadership team at Mint, India’s most awarded and’ respected business newspaper. As part of her role, she conceived and runs the Deals ertical which also includes being the editorial lead for key properties such as Annual Mint Private Equity Conclave, Annual Mint Stressed Assets investment Summit, Annual Mint Dealmakers Forum and so on. Prior to this, she was the first editorial employee of vccircle and rose to becoming it’s managing editor. At vccircle, she set up the editorial operations of the company, launched Techcircle-the sister website covering technology and startups and VCCTV- the web videos network for the group. She also conceived vccircle events – the key revenue stream for the group.she played a pivotal role in the success of the organization and stayed till the end of its eventual sale to Newscorp. She is a post graduate in broadcast journalism from Asian college of journalism, Chennai.

RM Vishakha, recognised for her result-oriented leadership approach towards challenging assignments including start-ups, restructuring and reorganisation, was previously associated with IndiaFirst Life as the company’s Chief Business Officer. Her diverse career spanning bore a special focus on Bancassurance. Prior to IndiaFirst Life, she was with Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Company Limited as the Director of Sales and Marketing.
Vishakha’s constant endeavour is to maintain a critical balance of functional and company objectives, and to constructively manage employee, manager, distributor and shareholder expectations. Her ability to drive strategic growth through effective implementation has many achievements to its credit. She successfully developed bancassurance models within public & private sectors as well as foreign banks and brought into being the first-ever retail bancassurance model. Her wide-ranging experience also comprises building and developing Group Insurance business.
Recognising the achievements through her three-decade long journey in the Indian insurance domain, ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) honoured Vishakha with the Individual Achievement Award. The ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), an eminent Indian statutory body, bestowed her with the CA Business Leader – Woman Award. For two years in a row, Vishakha was part of the “Most Powerful Woman in Business” listing by the reputed Fortune Magazine, aside of being acknowledged by other eminent publications including the Forbes and Business Today magazines.
Having ascended the corporate ladder, Vishakha has been fulfilling her role as a thought leader – voicing opinions on myriad areas of professional excellence – as a veteran member of the BFSI fraternity. Her thoughts and corporate philosophies, aimed at inspiring and motivate a new generation of thinkers and leaders have elicited much public and social media acclaim.
Vishakha is a commerce graduate and a Chartered Accountant. She is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Systems.

Dr. Manisha Ketkar, Director Symbiosis School of Banking & Finance is a Commerce graduate and a Fellow Cost Accountant (FCMA). She has also done her Master’s in Business Studies (MBS) from the University of Pune.
She has done her PhD in ‘Study of supply risk management practices’ with Symbiosis International (Deemed University) under the guidance of Dr. O. S. Vaidya from IIM Lucknow. Dr. Ketkar has presented papers in International Conferences and also has some published papers to her credit.
Dr. Ketkar has 28 years of experience. She has handled the operations of a business unit of a pharmaceutical multinational for over 16 years before her passion for teaching made her join Symbiosis in 2006. Her areas of expertise are Cost & Management Accounting and Supply Chain Management.
Dr. Ketkar is acknowledged for her interactive teaching approach. Along with academics, she is also known for her innovative approach to improvements, from student related matters to process reengineering.

Lata Menon has spent most of her career spanning over two and a half decades in various facets of HR providing thought leadership, design, development and implementation of HR structures, systems, policies and processes. She has extensive exposure to Talent Acquisition, Global Resource Management, Talent Engagement and Development, OD and Learning & Development Interventions, Merger-Acquisition assignments, BOT Transitions etc. Prior to joining Equifax, Lata was the Senior Vice-President and Country Head HR, India & Sri Lanka for Startek- Aegis managing a strength of 27,000 employees across 2 countries and 28 locations. She also held positions like India Ethics Officer and  Chair Internal Complaints Committee. A management graduate with a post-graduation in social psychology, she has extensive industry exposure, working with sectors like IT, ITES, Telecom and Manufacturing industry verticals.

Richa Natarajan has over a decade’s experience in investment banking and advisory services across Unitus Capital, Deloitte and Ernst & Young. Currently, at Unitus Capital, she leads the firm’s agriculture practice and  expansion into Indonesia. Prior to Unitus Capital, she was part of the business valuation practice at Deloitte in the US where she worked on valuations of businesses and intangible assets. Richa had earlier worked with the Corporate Finance practice of E&Y in India, where she focused on preparing business plans and feasibility studies.

Richa holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh with a specialization in Finance and Operations and has a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from Bangalore University

Shanti heads the Consumer Banking business at Kotak Mahindra Bank since April 2014 and is focused on growing customer acquisition, cross-sell and digital adoption across physical and digital channels and as an integrated Consumer Banking franchise across asset and liability products. Shanti is part of the Bank’s Executive Board that drives and oversees the Kotak Mahindra Group’s growth charter. Shanti is associated with the Group for over 27 years and has been responsible for successfully setting up and running several business units.
Under Shanti’s leadership, the consumer banking business continues to record the fastest pace of customer acquisition and savings account growth in the Indian banking industry. Shanti oversaw the integration of ING Vysya Bank’s retail bank with Kotak’s consumer banking operations, and the emphasis is on realising business synergies on the expanded customer base via cross-selling opportunities. In addition, the consumer banking business is driving its digital agenda across customer acquisition, customer adoption of banking, payments & e-commerce transactions, enhancing customer experience and deepening engagement.
Prior to this, Shanti was President – Corporate & Investment Banking for 11 years till April 2014, where she was responsible for ensuring delivery of comprehensive advisory & financial solutions to leading Indian Corporates, Public Sector Undertakings, Financial Institutions, Multinationals and the Government. Shanti was also Executive Director and CEO of Kotak Investment Banking earlier and, along with her team, steered the firm to a position of market leadership. She established a franchise recognised for executing innovative deals, including pioneering the first book-built IPO in India, which ushered global standards in the Indian capital markets. Shanti has rich and varied experience across retail and wholesale banking.
Before joining Kotak Mahindra Group, Shanti had a short stint with Bank of Nova Scotia – the Canadian International Bank, with their corporate banking and treasury division.
Shanti is on the board of Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore (IIM-B).
Business Today, one of India’s leading business magazines, has recognised Shanti as one of the ‘Most Powerful Women in Indian Business’ for five years in a row – 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Fortune India has featured Shanti as one of the top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in India in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Shanti was also awarded the “CA Women Business Leader” of the year 2013. Further, the Ladies’ Wing of the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognised Shanti as “Woman of the Year” 2013-14 in Banking and Financial Services.
Shanti graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College, University of Mumbai, and has completed her Chartered Accountancy and Cost and Works Accountancy.
Shanti is a philanthropist at heart and has been supporting several NGOs. She is a regular participant at various marathons in the country, and has raised pledges for causes close to her heart through Mumbai Marathon for the past several years. She was recognised as the Highest Individual Woman Pledge Raiser in 2011 and 2016, and Second Highest Individual Pledge Raiser in the Corporate Challenge category in 2013, 2014 and 2015. She has also been recognised as the highest fundraising change champion for SOPAN at the Mumbai Marathon 2017, and as a Change Icon at the Mumbai Marathon 2018 and 2019

Deena Mehta is a chartered accountant, MBA and Lawyer by education, Deena Mehta has the unique honour of being the first woman to enter the trading ring of Stock Exchange and also be the first lady to become President of the Exchange. An avid reader dedicated to social work and spirituality. Independent Director on Board of several companies.

Deena Mehta is associated with reforms in stock markets as member of several SEBI committees as well as member of various Bombay Stock exchange committees. Deena Mehta has also represented Forward Market Commission on Board of several commodity exchanges.

Deena Mehta is on Advisory Boards of many Management colleges. She has travelled over 450 districts of India conducting over 1000 investor education seminars all over the country. She has been  faculty at several reputed institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, Government Law College and several colleges.

Deena Mehta has written over 100 articles in leading newspapers and magazines on subjects pertaining to investor education and stock markets.

A seasoned financial markets professional, Benaifer Malandkar is the CIO of RAAY Global Investments– the family office of the Amit Patni Group of Patni Computers. The promoter family divested their stake in May 2011 to I-Gate Corporation at USD 1.5 bn. She is responsible for investment management of the group including identification, evaluation, deal execution, and monitoring every investment across a gamut of diverse asset classes including public markets.

Additionally, she is a Director on the Board of Bombay Shirt Company and an advisor to the Board of Waterfield Advisors, a fast growing Multi Family Office firm. She has also served as a Director on the Board of Nirvana Venture Advisors, a Digital & Internet Venture Fund.

Benaifer’s forte lies in end-to-end setting up of new businesses and following that up with a robust performance. She has a demonstrated track record in identifying early stage and unlisted company investments, succession planning, and estate management. She has raised funds for early stage and mid stage companies, and been instrumental in the leading the business strategy for a few ventures to achieve sustainable profitability. A well networked professional, she is recognized for business and market intelligence, a critical skill in the investments field.

Across the multiple organisations that she has worked in, including Citibank, ICICI Prudential AMC, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and SMIFS securities, she has consciously chosen new roles, thereby wide-basing her exposure and proficiency. With experience of over 17 years in various corporates she has gathered considerable understanding and comprehension of portfolio management, equity and debt markets, asset management, and retail & private banking industries.

She is often invited to speak at national and international industry events of repute and often writes opinion pieces in various publications. Benaifer received her post graduation degree in Masters in Business Administration from JDBIMS, Mumbai.

Vidya Shah is the CEO of EdelGive Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Edelweiss Group, a leading financial services conglomerate with an asset base of $4.8 billion. She spent the first 11 years of her career in investment banking with companies like ICICI, Peregrine and NM Rothschild in Mumbai, where she advised corporations on Capital Raising and M&A transactions.

 Vidya is a board member of Edelweiss. She joined Edelweiss in 2000 as the Chief Financial Officer of the Company and oversaw various important functions such as Finance, Human Resources and Administration.

 Vidya set up EdelGive Foundation, to build a bridge between the users and providers of philanthropic capital by exporting the skills and strategies of the for-profit world to the social sector. Under her leadership, the Foundation has come to be recognised and respected for effecting social change and transformation across India.

 Vidya also serves on the board of various prominent organisations like Agastya International Foundation, Asian Venture Philanthropy Network, Common Purpose, Janaagraha, Toolbox India Foundation, and Masoom.

Vidya graduated from the Bombay University, and holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Shilpa has been with Matrix India since June 2007 and is responsible for the financial reporting, compliance and tax functions, largely making sure everything gets accomplished.

Mathematics being her favorite subject at school led her to pursue a degree in Chartered Accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Prior to Matrix, she was at Mobile2win, a mobile VAS start-up, where she was responsible for setting up of financial and management reporting systems as well as financial reporting and compliance functions. She was also responsible for ensuring compliance with Indian tax regulations. This experience in the startup world helped hone her skill sets across the spectrum. While at Mobile2win, she was also part of fund raise activity. Earlier in her career, she has worked with professional accounting firms in their assurance and taxation Practice.



Sushma is the Investment Director at Aavishkaar and brings with her over 18 years of diverse experience in the field of early stage investing, small business incubation and consulting across sectors. Sushma has worked to identify, manage and exit large number of companies and has worked closely with several inclusive business entrepreneurs. She also works closely with many of her portfolio companies particularly when it comes to strategy, customer focus and financing. She has been an active representative on the Boards of several early-growth stage companies. She started off with an entrepreneurial venture in engineering design services and moved on to a role in investments in Real Estate and Hospitality as a part of the acquisition team at Starwood Capital India Advisors. She has extensively evaluated transactions covering debt and equity structures. While at  Ashoka- Innovators for the Public, Sushma got to work with social entrepreneurs in the Housing for All initiative. She has worked closely on building collaborative partnerships in market based solutions for the low-income populations. Sushma has completed a strategic leadership program at the prestigious Harvard Business School, she is an engineering graduate from RVCE,Bangalore and has an MBA from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.  Sushma holds Board-level and Advisory positions in several startups.

Sushma loves solving problems and in her free time mentors startups across diverse fields. She recently was recognized by IAAIF as “40 UNDER 40” Alternate investment professional in India.

Soumya Rajan founded Waterfield Advisors in 2011 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. Soumya brings over 23 years of experience in Consumer Banking, Private Banking and Risk, having worked with ANZ Grindlays and Standard Chartered Bank prior to founding Waterfield. Her banking experience ranges from Consumer Banking, Risk Management and SME Banking to Private Banking. Prior to her assignment with the Private Bank, she was the Risk Head for SME Banking.
Soumya has advised several business leaders on issues related to the success and continuity of their family enterprise including managing family wealth, succession transitions corporate and family governance, conflict resolution, business strategy and philanthropy. Soumya is a post graduate in Mathematics from Balliol College, Oxford University, UK. She completed her bachelors degree in Mathematics from St. Stephens College, Delhi.

Sharda founded NovoJuris in 2008 with a primary focus of making legal easy for entrepreneurs from starting up to scaling up and beyond. Previously, Sharda has worked with large Indian conglomerates and MNCs as their in-house attorney on various projects including – IPO, cross border transactions, acquisitions, takeovers, mergers, collaborations and intellectual property for nearly 12 years.
Sharda has earlier worked with Intel in India and Manipal Group. Sharda has special interests in women businesses and in the past has chaired TIE’s Special Interest Group for Women Entrepreneurs. Sharda is a Lawyer and a Company Secretary, along with a degree from Institute of Chartered Secretaries, UK. She has a Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from National Law School of India, Bangalore and an advanced certificate course in Copyrights from World Intellectual Property Organization.

Shivani is the Founder and CEO of India Alternatives and is a first generation entrepreneur. Prior to founding India Alternatives, Shivani was a key member of senior management at IDFC Private Equity where she was responsible for deal sourcing, execution and monitoring companies across various sectors including domestic consumption, healthcare and hospitality.
Shivani has previously worked with Lightyear Capital, a private equity fund based in NewYork, the private equity arm of General Electric and the investment banking division of Credit Suisse First Boston.
Shivani is also an Independent Director on Emaar India, one of the largest real estate developers in India
Shivani received an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Economics from Mount Holyoke College (Phi-Beta-Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, Sarah Williston Scholar).

Lakshmi heads fixed income and products team at KMAMC. She has been with the organization since 1999. Lakshmi joined KMAMC as a fund manager, and was responsible for credit research as well as deal execution, managing fund performance across all debt funds and assisting sales in client interaction. She has also been a portfolio specialist, and managed product related initiatives, product pricing and coordination with the funds management and sales team in that role.
Prior to Kotak, Lakshmi worked with Credence Analytics, as a research analyst where she was tracking corporate bond markets in India and generating research reports. She was also instrumental for conceiving various financial software tools in collaboration with software and technical teams.

The first woman in India to lead a payments start up, Upasana has played an instrumental role in building Mobikwik as one of India’s largest digital financial services platform. She has made an indelible mark on the startup ecosystem in India and has demonstrated what it takes to live one’s dream.
Upasana is widely recognised amongst the top women achievers in India, for her unfaltering contribution as the chief anchor, innovator and leader at MobiKwik. In recognition of her achievements in the tech startup ecosystem in India, Taku has received many awards and accolades from various institutions and media houses. Upasana is a Bachelor in Engineering (B.E.) from NIT Jalandhar and holds a Masters in Management Science from Stanford University.

Rasleen leads the corporate strategy & investor relations division at Etechaces group companies, namely, Policybazaar, Paisabazaar and Docprime. Rasleen has maneuvered diverse roles in capital raising, strategy, customer experience, and data science at Policybazaar and has been credited with leading numerous new initiatives, including setting up the claims division for the company and establishing the analytics & data science lab.
A post-graduate in Business Administration from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and a computer science engineer, Rasleen brings with her a decade of professional experience. Before starting her intrapreneurial journey with PolicyBazaar, she worked with Microsoft, Cummins and National Informatics Center, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. She has several accolades to her credit and was recognized as one of the most promising corporate leaders by Economic Times of India in 2016.

Manjeet has close to 2 decades of experience in Human Resources. She joined Kotak Group in 2002 and has spent a major part of her career with the bank. In her earlier stint with Kotak she managed HR for Car Finance, Housing loans, Personal loans and Credit card businesses.
In 2012 she moved out to join a startup firm, Liberty General Insurance Company and was responsible for spear heading HR-BP, HR Ops and C&B role. After her successful stint with Liberty, she rejoined Kotak securities in Jan 2017 as Head HR. Manjeet is currently the Head – HR & Admin for Kotak Securities.
