WNS has Partnered with AIWMI to build talent for Credit Research and Credit Risk Analysis

WNS in partnership with Global industry association ‘AIWMI’ closes talent gap with in-depth curriculum and assessment program by adapting ‘Certified Credit Research Analyst Certification (CCRA™)’

In our endeavor to build Skillset and knowledge on Credit Research, Rating and Analysis, we have partnered with AIWMI for including Certified Credit Research Analyst (CCRA™) certification for our talent pool.

The need for better credit analysis has been growing with new regulations like Dodd-Frank Act mandated stress testing and the Federal Reserve’s Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) and has also been highlighted in studies by regulators and industry. To address such changing dynamics in the fixed income markets, financial institutions and individuals must develop and maintain a comprehensive system of upgrading their skills and get international best practices along with domain knowledge.

WNS credit analysts and consultants in partnership with AIWMI can now earn CCRA™ certification, the globally recognized standard for credit analysts. The certificate program covers topics including credit rating, credit research, credit analysis, credit portfolio management, credit strategy, bank, operational risk management, credit underwriting, financial modeling, loan approval processes, credit risk rating system, loan review mechanism, and reporting systems. As a result, WNS credit professionals will now have opportunities to expand and strengthen their domain knowledge on credit risk and compliance capabilities and provide more strategic services globally.

According to Aditya Gadge, CEO, AIWMI – “The risk landscape for banks in India has undergone a major change over the last few years. Mounting bad loans in the banking sector have been the focus of media headlines, which directly reflects the financial health of the institutions. There has been a sharp rise in the quantum of NPAs reported by banks. This is not only affecting their balance sheets but also impacting the economy as well. Consequently, credit risk assessment, credit administration and monitoring have come increasingly into focus. The suitability of current credit risk assessment has often come into question”

While the regulator and bankers are taking all possible steps to detect, report and mitigate such risks, we believe a bigger focus needs to be put on the training and education of the credit teams as well.

Consulting Firm Ernst & Young recently conducted a survey for its report – “Unmasking India’s NPA issues- Can the banking sector overcome this phase”. A record 68% respondent from among bankers representing public, private, foreign and cooperative banks felts that “Keeping the business dynamics and complex business structures into account, banks are required to enhance the skill sets of the credit teams. For instance, credit team/analysts need to undergo periodic training to upgrade their skills; scoring models, industry benchmarks and credit evaluation sheets should be updated regularly”

Adopting an education program in credit risk analysis that is based upon the best global practices could be an effective move towards taking proactive corrective steps to reduce the burden of stressed assets and potentially reduce future NPAs.

“The past decade has seen significant losses in the banking industry. Companies that had been performing well suddenly announced huge losses due to credit exposures that turned sour, interest rate positions taken, or derivative exposures that may or may not have been assumed to hedge balance sheet risk. In response to this, commercial banks all over the world have embarked upon an upgrading of their risk management, control systems and talent pool. The partnership with AIWMI will enable WNS in further grooming the talent in the credit analysis domain and will help us drive nimbleness and excellence into our clients’ middle and back office credit operations”. – Nitish Kulkarni, Sr. General Manager, Wealth and Investment Management Operations, WNS
